At the heart of Justice Restored is Mahesh Gupta, a sincere and devoted last-grade employee in a government organization whose life changes dramatically after a serious workplace accident. After sustaining a severe head injury, Mahesh undergoes treatment and is eventually transferred to Ranchi Mental Hospital when complications affect his mental health.
What should have been treated as an employee’s medical crisis instead becomes a tragic administrative failure.
Because the necessary communication regarding his continued hospitalization does not reach the appropriate office, Mahesh is recorded as being absent without authorization. His salary is stopped, and eventually he is removed from service. His family is pushed into poverty, his son’s education suffers, and repeated representations fail to bring relief.
The novel takes a decisive turn when a newly appointed HRD Chief, Mohan, receives correspondence concerning Mahesh Gupta’s unresolved case. Rather than accepting previous administrative decisions without question, Mohan investigates.
With the assistance of Senior HR Manager Mishra and a detailed welfare inquiry, the truth gradually emerges: Mahesh had never deliberately abandoned his duties. His absence was the result of continued medical treatment, while the injustice arose largely from a serious communication gap and the failure of officials to investigate the circumstances properly.
Through determination, empathy, and ethical leadership, the HRD Chief succeeds in convincing the General Manager to correct the administrative wrong. Mahesh Gupta’s removal order is cancelled, his case is reconsidered on medical grounds, his rightful benefits are restored, and his son receives an appointment on compassionate grounds.
And thus, after years of suffering, justice is restored.

A Writer Who Knows the World He Portrays

Before devoting himself more fully to writing, Vembadian served for nearly three decades as an HRD professional in the Indian Railways. An Indian Railway Personnel Service Officer, he retired as Chief Personnel Officer (Administration) after serving in several important capacities, including Chairman of a Railway Recruitment Board and positions across railway divisions and zonal headquarters in different parts of India.
His academic background includes an M.A., Bachelor of Laws, a Postgraduate Diploma in Personnel Management and Industrial Relations, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Labour Administration.
This extensive professional experience gives Justice Restored a distinctive authenticity. Vembadian understands administrative structures not merely as an observer but through decades of direct professional engagement.
Yet his literary aspirations began much earlier.
With an academic background in Tamil literature and an early ambition to become a professor and author, Vembadian continued writing throughout his administrative career. His literary work includes Tamil poetry, short stories, prose, professional guides, English poetry, novels, and numerous Kindle publications.
Several of his Tamil works received institutional recognition, while his professional guide, A Guide to Conduct Inquiry Step by Step, was acquired by divisions and zonal headquarters of Indian Railways.
After retirement, his ambition to reach readers across the world led him towards English-language writing. His poetry collection Full Moon Day was published in 2022, followed by Justice Restored, published by Olympia Publishers, London, in March 2025.
